The Peard Seniors put in a great effort to get the win last weekend but must put that behind them and refocus for their next task.
This weekend they head to Curtin University South Oval to take on Curtin Uni Wesley in a tantalising Preliminary Final where a ticket to the big dance awaits the victor.
Curtin, who spent most of the year on top of the ladder, found themselves on the wrong side of the ledger just once during the qualifying rounds and would be bitterly disappointed to go down to North Beach in the 2nd Semi Final last weekend, particularly as they had a relatively easy 34 point win during their regular season encounter.
Their only regular season loss came in round 6 when Kingsway claimed a massive upset by defeating them by a solitary point. In that game Curtin had more shots on goal but were let down by their inaccuracy.
Last weekend North Beach had the better opportunities, with 21 shots on goal to 15, but couldn’t make the most of it to leave the door open for Curtin. They almost walked through the door too, kicking the last four goals of the match to get within one point on the final siren.
When the two sides faced off in round 3, Curtin jumped out of the blocks to take a six goal lead into the first change. The Peard Seniors clawed their way back into the contest over the next half of footy before flying home in the last. Unfortunately for the Seniors, the slow start cost them and they ran out of time still trailing by three points.
The Peard Seniors simply cannot allow Curtin to get a head start this weekend. Being at home and hungry to prove their place this year, Curtin will want to repeat their start from earlier in the year and take the game on.
The Seniors have been well and truly in every contest this year but they will need to be more than in the game this weekend. They’ve shown over the past few years that they have the talent but they must come switched on and ready to go.
This time last year the Peard Seniors were in the same position as Curtin. After finishing the year on top of the ladder they dropped the 2nd Semi Final to have a home Preliminary Final. History records the result of that encounter but this year they will certainly be out to make amends for that disappointment and condemn Curtin to a straight sets exit in 2020.
This is a massive week and it’s going to be an absolute cracker of a contest.
Make sure you get down to South Oval to get behind the Peard Seniors and help them claim their place in the 2020 decider.
